Ornamentals and plants to keep it off

Landscape and nursery ornamentals get foliar, crown and drench treatments for blights, leaf spots, mildews, anthracnose, rust and some root rots. Ornamentals are limited to two back-to-back sprays before switching to a different mode of action.[1]

Keep spray and drift off wintercreeper, ninebark, and grape varieties such as Concord and Niagara, which it can injure. Flowering impatiens and petunias may discolor.[1]

Where it is used

Use it as a preventive spray before or at the very first signs of disease. The label warns that late curative use may not give satisfactory control.[1]

Let foliage dry before mowing or irrigating, except for fairy ring, brown ring patch and Pythium root dysfunction, which call for watering it into the thatch or root zone.[1]

On dollar spot it gives suppression only; where dollar spot pressure is moderate to severe, tank-mix it with another effective non-strobilurin fungicide.[1]

Test it on a small area of your grass and watch for injury over 14 days before broad use, and never mix it with organosilicone adjuvants.[1]

Safety and environmental hazards

People

Signal word WARNING: the concentrate may be fatal if swallowed and moderately irritates eyes. Handlers wear long sleeves and pants, shoes with socks, and waterproof chemical-resistant gloves such as nitrile or butyl rubber.[1]

Pets

Nobody should enter treated areas until the spray has dried, so keep pets off the lawn until then. The label also bars use on crops intended for food or feed.[1]

Bees and pollinators

Insignia SC has no bee or pollinator warning; its environmental statements cover fish, aquatic invertebrates, runoff and groundwater.[1]

Fish and water

Toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. It can reach ponds and streams through runoff for months after use, so a vegetated buffer strip and avoiding rain or irrigation within 48 hours both help.[1]

Resistance

No more than two back-to-back sprays for anthracnose, dollar spot, gray leaf spot or Pythium, and no more than three for other turf diseases, before switching to a non-strobilurin fungicide. FRAC notes cross-resistance across all Group 11 fungicides in G143A mutant fungi.[1][2]

Common questions

How much Insignia SC per 1,000 sq ft?
0.4 to 0.7 fl oz of product per 1,000 sq ft, depending on the disease, in 2 to 4 gallons of water.[1]
Does Insignia control brown patch and large patch?
Yes. Both are listed at 0.4 to 0.7 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft on 14- to 28-day intervals; for large patch, start in fall at the first signs and make at least two sprays.[1]
Can I rotate pyraclostrobin with azoxystrobin?
That doesn't count as rotation. Both are Group 11, and the label says to alternate with non-strobilurin fungicides, not other Group 11 products.[1][2]
