Signal word
Pyridaben T&O SC Miticide/Insecticide (Gowan supplemental registration sold as Sanmite SC): Caution[1]

Greenhouse re-entry

After a greenhouse spray, people without protective equipment stay out for 12 hours unless the space gets 10 air exchanges, 2 hours of system ventilation, or 4 hours of passive ventilation through vents or windows.[1]

Same group as tolfenpyrad and fenpyroximate

IRAC lists pyridaben in Group 21A alongside fenazaquin, fenpyroximate, tebufenpyrad and tolfenpyrad. Rotating among them does not change the mode of action, so switch groups when resistance is a concern.[2]

Where it is used

Time the first spray for when mites first appear, before you reach about five spider mites per leaf. Judge results 4 to 7 days after treatment.[1]

Cover every leaf surface completely, since pyridaben works by contact. The label suggests 100 to 400 gallons of spray per broadcast acre.[1]

Don't use it for back-to-back miticide sprays. The label says to rotate it with treatments that have a different mode of action.[1]

Don't mix it with nutritional sprays that contain boron. It can't be applied by air or through irrigation equipment.[1]

Safety and environmental hazards

People

Signal word CAUTION: harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin, and causes moderate eye irritation. Repeated skin contact may cause allergic reactions, so handlers wear gloves, eyewear, long sleeves and long pants.[1]

Pets

This is a commercial greenhouse and nursery product. Treated greenhouses stay closed to anyone without protective gear for 12 hours unless the label's ventilation steps are completed.[1]

Bees and pollinators

Highly toxic to bees. Don't spray or let it drift onto blooming crops or weeds while bees are foraging; the label suggests early morning or dusk applications.[1]

Fish and water

Toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Don't apply within 110 feet upwind of surface water or when wind is above 8 mph.[1]

Common questions

How much Sanmite SC per 1,000 square feet?
0.15 to 0.22 oz of product per 1,000 sq ft, the same as 6.4 to 9.6 oz per acre. Use the higher end for whiteflies.[1]
Does pyridaben kill spider mite eggs or just adults?
The label doesn't break control down by life stage. It describes knockdown and residual control and says to spray as mite populations build.[1]
Can I use pyridaben on garden cucumbers?
No. The cucumber directions are for greenhouse cucumbers only, and the label says it is not for cucumbers grown in the field.[1]
