Days to wait before you pick

Leafy crops such as lettuce, cabbage and broccoli need 1 day between the last spray and harvest. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant need 5 days, beans and peas 7, onions and garlic 14, and sweet corn 21.[1]

Apples and pears need 21 days, while peaches, cherries, plums and nut trees need 14. Fruit trees are limited to 9 sprays a year, with no more than 5 after bloom.[1]

Where gamma-cyhalothrin fits

It is a Group 3A pyrethroid, the same IRAC group as lambda-cyhalothrin, bifenthrin and permethrin. Switching among these doesn't change the mode of action, so rotate to a different group if a pest stops responding.[2]

Where it is used

For lawn surface insects, wet the grass a few hours ahead, then hold off watering or mowing for 24 hours. For grubs and mole crickets, water in with an extra quarter to half inch afterward.[1]

Before a perimeter treatment, clear leaf litter, cut back plants touching the foundation, and rake back deep mulch so the spray reaches the soil where pests travel.[1]

On fire ant mounds, don't disturb the mound first. Treat in cool weather, 65 to 80 degrees, or early morning or late evening.[1]

Hard surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways and patios get spot or crack-and-crevice treatment only. Don't spray during rain or water to the point of runoff, and test a hidden spot on vinyl siding first.[1]
